What is a backflow assembly?
The Federal Safe Drinking Water Act was created to ensure that our drinking water is kept safe. One of the biggest threats to our potable water system is the risk of dangerous contaminants being drawn into our water supply though a situation called “backflow”. Backflow is the reversal of the normal direction of flowing water, which causes anything upstream to be pulled backwards into the potable water system. This can happen through something as simple as an unprotected garden hose, but thankfully there are devices designed to prevent this dangerous occurrence. As part of the Safe Drinking Water Act, it is required that specialized equipment called backlfow devices/assemblies be installed and re-certified annually to prevent dangerous contamination of our drinking water.
